Results

Cone 6 oxidation: Fires to an opaque deep rust red with a slight sheen when applied fully concentrated. This product will leave red body staining when wiped away. Little to no movement when used alone or in combination.

Cone 10 reduction: Color darkens; finish, mobility, and body staining remain the same.

Cone 06 oxidation: Fires to an opaque rust red with a slight sheen when applied fully concentrated. This product will leave red body staining when wiped away. Little to no movement when used alone or in combination.

Description

Washes are a multi-purpose product with limitless possibilities. Washes can be used alone or with any glaze from low fire temps at cone 06/05, to mid-range temps at cone 5/6, and up to high fire temps at cone 10. They are primarily used painted into textured areas and wiped away on the higher surface to accentuate the texture. It works great for stenciling, stamping and silk screening as this is a very stable product. When using in combination, apply a transparent and stable glaze such as a celadon or clear glaze to ensure stability in performance and maintaining details. Can be layered with other glazes to promote interactions and does not add much movement to combinations. Iron Wash also works great as a body stain. Applying clear glaze can lessen the appearance of staining.

The chips shown were fired on a white clay body. The choice of clay body, the thickness of glaze application, the firing process, and temperature will affect the fired results.
